What does the Jesus Fish mean?

The fish has long been the symbol of Christianity. The earliest followers of Jesus were persecuted and forced to worship in hidden locations. At times, believers would use the symbol of the fish to identify other Christians.

The Greek word fish, as shown in the fish graphic above, transliterates into "ichthus." These letters spell out a hidden message about our Lord: i is the first letter of the Greek for for Jesus, ch is the first letter of the Greek for Christ, th is the first letter of the Greek for God, u -- is the first letter of the Greek for Son, s -- is the first letter of the Greek for Savior.
